Benson Shotokan Karate

Sensei Sid first became interested in martial arts in the
early 1960's at the age of 15.
purchasing a book on Kung Fu and after about
a year of trying to learn put it aside to look
around for a Karate School.
Unfortunately where he lived at the time in London there were no local clubs so it wasn't until later once moving to Birmingham in the 1970's that he
eventually found the Karate club he was seeking.
Mr. Cyril Cumming's dojo in Northfield. He was a
member of the K.U.G.B and affiliated to the J.K.A (Japan Karate Association).
1978 Sensei reached the rank of 1st Dan Black Belt under Sensei Enoeda
in Crystal Palace.

During his time with Sensei Cummings he first started a role of Instructor, taking every opportunity to offer assistance in the coaching of his students and offering support with touring squads across the county whilst Sensei Cummings was otherwise engaged as a visiting instructor abroad.
Also acting a referee and judge under the K.U.G.B regionally and nationally in E.K.B events.
Squad member for Sensei Cummings dojo entering various competitions in both Kumite and Kata.
Under Sensei Cummings dojo he actively attended every course on offer
obtaining valuable knowledge and experience from quality British and Japanese
Masters such as late Grand Master Sensei Masa-toshi Nakayama, Sensei Ochi,
Sensei Y Tabata, Sensei H Shirai, Sensei M Ueki, Sensei S Miyazaki, Sensei T
Kasi, Sensei Y Ohta, Sensei Katsunori Tsuyama's Milkio Yahara, Masao Kawazo and
many more.
Attended Sensei Enoeda Summer European Courses at Crystal Palace London twice
a year for over 20 years.
As a Martial Artist Sensei has run Benson Karate since the mid 70, starting at Benson School Wilson Green Birmingham before moving to The Play Centre in Handsworth and again moving to current venue Handsworth Leisure Centre.
Over a period of 20 years Benson Karate have
taught all students regardless of age, sex or abilities.
training two Junior Internationals both
going on to complete as Seniors at International Level for the K.U.G.B and
E.K.B
Benson Karate won the K.U.G.B National Championship in 1992 at NIA Birmingham.
Sensei was twice Instructor of Birmingham University Shotokan Karate Club, teaching
well over 100 students for a period of over 8 years.
Helping students win both B U S F and K U G B's Students Championships.
Supported three students in their Duke of Edinburgh awards to Gold
Standard and being invited to attend Buckingham Palace to accept their award. With one of his Student of Birmingham University Shotokan Karate Club. Sid has help many student he met on courses from kuy grades to black belts, sensei Sid is always ready to help any one if they ask him
